Missing Pregnant Marine, Maria Lauterbach, Dead

North Carolina authorities say missing pregnant Marine Maria Frances Lauterbach is dead. Detectives learned the Lance Corporal, is dead and that her body is buried somewhere near the coast in Onslow County.

Sheriff Ed Brown said police were “searching the area for the grave that could be in and around the place where she was murdered.” He quickly corrected himself about the use of the word ‘murder.’ “I am not calling it murder because the story has some twists and turns,” he said.

Lauterbach, who was 8 months pregnant when she went missing, was set to testify against Cpl. Cesar Armando Lauren. She claimed he sexually assaulted her. Lauterbach disappeared on December 14, before she was to give her testimony. Court documents reveal holes were found in her story and she was facing possible discharge.

Lauren has been named the suspect in the case. His whereabouts are unknown, but authorities are searching for him.

Sheriff Brown says there is physical evidence which prove the 20-year-old is dead and Lauren is linked to the case. Brown would only say Lauterbach’s death was a result “of an injury to her.”

Police plan to interview Lauterbach’s roommate, Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham, as they believe he “will shed a lot of light on the case.” Durham is not a suspect.
Lauterbach worked on military base Camp Lejeune as a personnel clerk.
